“Low-Toxic” Baby Registry
Building your baby registry is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. When you are trying to prioritize non-toxic items, it can start to feel impossible. We all want the best for our babies, but once you’re bogged down in hours of research for each and every item, it’s hard to know what “best” is.
When I built Miss F’s registry, I did spend all those hours combing through user reviews, material lists, Consumer Reports, and non-toxic blogs to build what I’d hoped would be a clean, natural list of items. Now, over three years and another baby later, I have had the advantage of putting all those items to the test and tweaked our list as necessary.

Before we dive in, here are a few things you should know…
I’ve dubbed this a “low-toxic” registry list, instead of “non-toxic,” because I’ve included a handful of items that typically would not pass my standards (e.g. are plastic), but are, in my opinion, the most practical choices.
This is not an exhaustive list of the very best baby gear—it is a list of non-or low-toxic items that have worked great for our family. Any items that I have not personally tested, I have carefully researched.
The resources to the right are a great place to start if you’re researching other options.
You absolutely do not need everything on this registry list—I included every possible type of gear that we have used or tested, but many items are “nice to haves.” For example, you probably don’t need a bouncer, a swing, and a lounger, but I gave options for all three.
Click on the button below each section if you’d like to review the research behind my choices and alternative product options.
Primary resources I used for research:
User reviews and friends’ recommendations
Lots and lots of Googling
Note: An * means I have not personally tried the item but it’s what I would choose for future babies

You should also build an infant-friendly first aid kit prior to your baby’s arrival. Since I am not a medical professional, I will not share what we included in ours. However, many good lists exist online, including both allopathic (traditional) and homeopathic options.
**I explain why we decided to use a warm mist humidifier in the deep dive (click on collage); if you also select a warm mist variety, use it with utmost caution as they get very hot and can cause severe burns. They are generally not recommended for use around children, and you should always carefully read the manufacturer’s instructions and follow them closely.
Clothing
Because everyone has different tastes, when I was building my girls’ registries I found it most helpful to know good brands and recommended number of outfits. The one specific recommendation I make is for pajamas, because my favorite brands meet my criteria without breaking the bank.
Pajamas: Burt’s Bees Footed or Honest Company Footed (3-4 total)
Onesies: 6-8 Total; long- or short-sleeve depending on season (get pants as well for cooler months)
Other outfits: 3-4 Total for each size (NB, 0-3 mo, 3-6 mo)
Beanie hats: 2-3 Total
Socks: 6-8 Pairs total (will always get lost)
Booties: 1-2 Pairs total (stay on much better than socks)
Drool Bibs: 5-10 Total (we liked bandana-style like this)
Seasonal: Depends on season: 1-2 Swimsuits, 1 sun hat, 1-2 light jackets, 1 heavy coat and/or set of snow gear.
Favorite brands: H&M, Burts Bee's Baby, Honest Company, Spearmint Love, L’ovedBaby, Gap, Zara, Old Navy, Little Planet, Carter’s, Hanna Andersson, KyteBABY, Little Sleepies, Colored Organics, Beaufort Bonnet Company, Stitchy Fish
Although in an ideal world we could use only 100% organic cotton clothing, that’s not always practical. The important factor is that clothing is 100% cotton; even if it’s not organic, after 3-4 washes with vinegar rinses, most harmful chemicals should be nearly washed away. We do always avoid flame retardants in clothes.
